FAQ

When is Hacks of Kindness?
Saturday, October 3 from 9am - 9pm.

Where is it?
Hacks of Kindness is virtual, so join in from wherever!

I don't know how to code. Are beginners really welcome?

Yes! We say beginner friendly and we mean it! If you have little to no coding experience, we have workshops that can teach you new skills or you can form a team with other hackers. There will be mentors available throughout the event, and there is a prize for best beginner hack. For people who don't want to compete at all, it is still an opportunity to network. WiCS aims to make this hackathon a stress free, community oriented experience.

Who can come?
All college students, including first-time hackers, are welcome.

When does registration close?

Registration is open until October 3 at 9am.

Have you hosted hackathons before?

Yes! Previously we hosted Hack Night for Humanity, Take Back the Night and Hack to the Future.

How is Hacks of Kindness different from other hackathons?

Hacks of Kindness is a hackathon geared towards (but not exclusive to) women and promotes closing the gender gap in the technology field. At WiCS, we care deeply about providing a sense of community through a relatively small hackathon. If you are interested in other hackathons at UVA, check out HooHacks!

How does Hacks of Kindness support beginner hackers and why should beginner hackers come?

Hacks of Kindness places an emphasis on inviting first and second year students. We even offer a special prize for Best Beginner Hack! Hacks of Kindness is only a one day hackathon and provides many opportunities to meet with coding mentors and get any help they need! Beginner hackers should attend Hacks of Kindness in order to experience a stress free and community oriented environment that will allow them to ease into the realm of hackathons!
